* The three best ways to buy your holiday money

With Easter a little over a month away, and with the prospect of a hung parliament hitting the value of the Pound Sterling hard, holiday makers are likely to be concerned at how far their hard earned money will stretch when abroad. Analysis from moneysupermarket.com, Britain's number one comparison site, shows that planning ahead will make your holiday money go further.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert at moneysupermarket.com said: "The fall in the value of the pound means that it is more important than ever to ensure you're getting the biggest bang for your buck. With Easter just over a month away, a little planning ahead can save a considerable sum and give you more spending power when abroad.

"When travelling abroad it really does pay to shop around for your travel money and be aware of the exchange rate and commissions when changing your money. Follow our top tips on the various ways and means of spending abroad to avoid paying over the odds for your travel money."

Buying currency - it doesn't pay at all to leave changing your holiday money until you get to the bureau at your airport. Buying €1,000 from Travelex at Gatwick airport would cost £997.51 compared to the cheapest deal which by using a debit card from Nationwide would cost you £906.59 - saving £90.92 - enough for a couple of nights out while you are away. And you can forget shopping around on the high street at your bank, Post Office or travel agent. The very best rates are to be found online where you can take advantage of internet rates, free commission and free secure delivery to your home address. You can even book online and pick up your holiday money at locations in UK airports, ports and some railway stations.

The local currency is a great way to spend on holiday as it is straightforward to use, however, you may want to ensure that you keep it secure in a hotel safe or money belt and never rely on it as your only option.
